1. Why was Barranquilla chosen? 

Barranquilla was chosen the culture capital of América in 2013 because Barranquilla's mayoralty start to manage the idea of being the culture capital of its country and continent in this year, specially because the city is celebrating the bicentennial, so the mayoralty contacted Bureau Internacional de Capitales Culturales (who give the distinction) and their president came to Barranquilla and realize about the cultural cohesion, the positivism and the international projection of the city.

2. Will Barranquilla receive any of the economic benefits Liverpool hoped to from being named a cultural capital?
Of course, Barranquilla (as Liverpool) will receive a lot of  benefits tangibles and intangibles because of the fact that is the cultural capital of América, this is due to the myriad tourists at the city, the foreign investment, the growth of the employment rate, the international recognition and an improvement in the infrastructure.
